Year 11 Careers Expo 2026

The hallways of St Francis Xavier College were alive with energy, conversation and possibility on Wednesday evening as students and families gathered for the College’s annual Year 11 Information Evening and Careers Expo — a cornerstone event designed to help young people navigate one of the most important decisions of their education journey.

From future tradespeople and healthcare workers to aspiring engineers, teachers, creatives and defence personnel, students from Year 10 and above were given a rare opportunity to engage directly with educators, universities, training providers and industry professionals as they begin shaping life beyond school.

College faculties delivered detailed subject information, providing students and parents with valuable insight into senior study pathways, prerequisite subjects and the opportunities available through Years 11 and 12. The evening aimed not only to inform, but to empower students to make confident, considered decisions about their future.

Adding to the atmosphere were dozens of professional organisations and tertiary institutions, including representatives from the Australian Defence Force, Australian National University and Canberra Institute of Technology, alongside a broad range of employers, apprenticeship providers and industry bodies. Together, they offered students practical advice and first-hand knowledge across academic pathways, trades, traineeships and emerging industries.

Throughout the evening, the sounds of live music echoed through the College as SFX performing arts students showcased their talents, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for guests moving between presentations and expo displays.

Meanwhile, hospitality students impressed attendees with a professionally prepared selection of canapés, demonstrating the real-world skills and industry-standard experiences available within the College’s vocational education programs.

Principal Sandra Darley said events such as the Information Evening and Careers Expo play a critical role in supporting students during a defining stage of their lives.

“Choosing senior subjects and beginning to shape a future career pathway is one of the most significant decisions a young person will make,” Mrs Darley said.

“As a College, we have a responsibility to ensure our students and families feel informed, supported and confident in those decisions. Nights like this allow students to ask questions, explore opportunities and gain a deeper understanding of the many pathways available to them.

“At SFX, we are committed to helping every student discover where their strengths and passions can take them, and ensuring they are equipped for success long after they leave our gates.”

Director of Senior Studies Felicity Duffy, who delivered the evening’s keynote presentation on senior academic packages and pathways, said the College prides itself on offering personalised support for every learner.

“SFX has an incredible array of resources, programs and staff expertise to help our students succeed, no matter what pathway they choose,” Mrs Duffy said.

“Whether students are pursuing university studies, vocational education, apprenticeships, trades or employment pathways, nights like this allow us to work closely with families to explain the options available and help students make informed choices about their future.

“When schools and families work together, we create the best possible outcomes for young people.”

As the evening concluded students left with prospectuses, ideas and renewed excitement for the future, the event reinforced an important truth: pathways may differ, but every student deserves the guidance, support and opportunity to pursue their ambitions with confidence.
